McLaren intentionally set on fire

Location: Sydney, Australia

Victim: A McLaren 570s

Weapons: Pizza boxes and a lighter

Motive: Arsonist didnā€™t get a ride (suspected)

Outcome: Vehicle totaled, perpetrator still at large

Other details:

  • The McLaren was listed for sale just 3 days before the arson attack.

  • The owner had parked it on the street, instead of its usual place in the garage.

  • Fortunately, the car was insured.

Itā€™s devastating to be honest. The way we came in and seen it lit up on fire. I donā€™t think thereā€™s anyone who has it out for us. He probably wanted to go for a ride and I never maybe didnā€™t give him the chance to, maybe.

Hamad Ajaje - Owner

Brand new 1985 Chevy Camaro IROC-Z Discovered in Trailer

Here are some interesting facts about this automotive gem:

  • It was discovered in 2010, after being stored for 23 years in a truck trailer

  • Back then it had only 4 miles on the odometer

  • Itā€™s now available at auction for $100,000

  • The interior is still covered in the original plastic protection film

  • It still has the chalk marks left by factory workers on its windows and mirrors

  • The original owner put it into storage immediately after taking delivery, knowing it would become a classic car

  • The price tag sticker is still stuck to the windows, showing a price of $16,338 ($47,425 in todayā€™s money)

The listing for the car is linked below.

Nissan Z owners unite in Arizona

New or modern, young or old, it didnā€™t matter.

Nearly 100 Z cars joined the ā€˜Z Holidayā€™ event at Barlett Lake, Arizona organized by Nismo Nick.

He also interviewed the many owners; their stories are quite interesting.

Life-sized Radio Flyer wagon

Another oldie but a goodie - this wagon was built in 2010 by Fred Keller and his wife as a retirement project.

  • The build is based on a 1976 Mazda B1600 pickup

  • To be road-legal, it has working headlights, taillights, indicators, rearview mirrors, and a flat windshield

  • The original 1.6-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine of the Mazda powers the creation

The carā€¦.I mean wagon is on auction till the 12th of May, and the current bid stands at $7,800.

1. Tokyo not Drift

The driver of this Mazda MX-8 floored the throttle while leaving a car meet in Tokyo.

2. Another Porsche goes swimming

If Mustangs like curbs, do Porsches like water now?

This is the 4th incident in the last couple of weeks.

You can read about the previous 3 here.

3. Valet does donutsā€¦and crashes

Cybertruck frunk vs. human finger

The Cybertruck gained a lot of bad rap for its sharp body panels.

Many used carrots and frankfurters to show what could happen if your finger accidentally got caught while the frunk closed.

Tesla quickly released a pinch prevention OTA software update, but has it made a difference?

This guy puts his very own fingers to the test.

Spoiler alert: It didnā€™t go perfectly smooth. Do not watch the video if youā€™re squeamish.

Hereā€™s the link (we could not show the video here due to copyright issues).

Rich people donā€™t want EV supercars

We started to develop [the] Nevera in 2016/2017, when electric was cool. We notice [now] that as electrification is becoming mainstream, people at the top end of the sector want to differentiate themselves.

Mate Rimac, CEO of Rimac, speaking at the Financial Times Future of the Car conference in London

So far, the firm has managed to sell only 50 of the 150 supercars they planned on producing.

Just like vinyl records and analog watches are making a comeback among the financially wealthy, ICE supercars remain a preferred option too.

Tesla lays off more staff

Hereā€™s the rundown:

  • For the fourth week in a row, Tesla lays off employees

  • 6 executives have quit, for reasons yet unknown

  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the cuts were due to a ā€œduplication of roles and job functionsā€

  • The company's share prices are down due to competing Chinese manufacturers

  • A laid-off Supercharger employee predicts that the network quality will deteriorate, as the staff was already overworked before the layoffs

On the flip side, they may have to re-hire some of their old staff to fulfill obligations after receiving a $17 million federal grant.

McMurtry Speirling smokes GT3 racecars

If youā€™re an engineering nerd, you donā€™t need an introduction to the Speirling.

But to the unaware, this million-dollar EV has a thousand horsepower and an electric fan that sucks it into the ground.

This allows it to generate other-worldly amounts of downforce, making it extremely quick around any track.

In the video above, it absolutely demolishes proper racecars.
