McLaren F1 windshield is…..
pricey

At an event last weekend, not one, but two McLaren F1s ended up with cracked windshields at the Sonoma Raceway in California.

The cracks seem to have developed at the same spot on both cars, but the cause is still uncertain.

Here’s the kicker - it costs $33,000 to replace each windshield!

For reference, that’s around the same as a brand-new Dodge Challenger.

But for a car that’s valued at $20 million today, I bet the owners won’t even feel the pinch.

Makes me wonder how much Mr. Bean paid to get his F1 rebuilt šŸ¤”

Toyota Hilux Ad
Banned in the UK

The Advertising Standards Agency in the UK has banned Toyota from showing its Hilux ad….

Why?
Because they ā€œpresented and condoned the use of vehicles in a manner that disregarded their impact on nature and the environment.ā€

A note from me, the writer: On behalf of the UK - I apologize to all car people. I don’t know what’s wrong with this country sometimes šŸ˜…

Toyota countered by saying:

  • The Hilux is built for the toughest of conditions and its target customers had a genuine need for the kind of all-terrain capability shown in the adverts

  • The ad was shot on private land with permission from the owners

  • The brand is focused on making its cars environmentally friendly

I’m a big fan of the ad, very well done!

BAD: your car burns down
Good: you get gifted another one

A lady shared a video on TikTok showing her Kia that caught fire.

Surprisingly, her Stanley drink bottle was unscathed. The ice in the bottle managed to survive the inferno too!!

The video quickly went viral and was seen by the President of Stanley.

He agreed to not only send her a bunch of new Stanley products but would also replace her vehicle for free.

This is a great move on Stanly’s part.
So glad they pulled this off.

^ And here’s the video

Top Gear gets paused :/

Filming of the 34th series of Top Gear was put on hold following presenter Freddie Flintoff’s accident in December 2022.

Unfortunately, it seems like this ā€œon holdā€ might be permanent šŸ˜ļø

The BBC recently announced that production of the Top Gear TV show will not continue for the ā€œforeseeable futureā€.

Thankfully, its international shows, content sales, digital, magazines, and licensing will continue to remain functional though.

1/ Dogs attack cars!?

CCTV footage shows dogs breaking into the lot and tearing the bumpers and fenders off vehicles.

This wasn’t a one-off either…

The canines came back on 3 separate occasions, causing a total of $350 000 worth of damage šŸ’€

2/ Corvette driver somehow survives this insane crash

The crash was a result of an illegal street race with a silver Ford Mustang.

The driver was reportedly ejected 154 feet into the air but miraculously survived, albeit with serious injuries.

To clarify: the fail here is that he crashed.

3/ Chips to die for :|

Here’s your reminder that if you want a snack, just pull over and get it safely.

What a crazy video, glad nobody was hurt!

4/ Bed Bugs now employed at Tesla’s NY Gigafactory

Tesla seems to be in the news for a lot of bad reasons lately.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) says it has received dozens of complaints from workers at Tesla’s Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York.

The reason?
Bed bugs!

ā€œAnytime we’d ask questions, [management] said they’re looking into it, but then, [they] never would get back to us,ā€

a spokesperson for the organization

Tesla took action by using chemicals to kill the bugs.
Apparently that came at a cost too šŸ’€

ā€œMe and a few coworkers’ eyes started burning, they also got very puffy and I started to have some breathing issues,ā€

So much drama huh…

1/ UK won't be able to make enough batteries for electric cars

By 2030, battery manufacturing facilities in the UK will have to produce at least 90 GWh worth of batteries every year.

That number will rise to 200 GWh by 2040.

As it stands, it currently produces only 2 GWh, courtesy of just one facility.

Well, can’t they build more?

Yes, but even with future projects planned, they’ll only hit a 67 GWh (out of 90GWh) capacity by 2030.

And that’s problematic šŸ‘‡ļø

The report reckons if the UK doesn't get its act together, as many as 160,000 jobs could be at risk.

2/ Pay $1/min to charge your Tesla to 100% in the U.S

With Thanksgiving around the corner, Tesla is aware that a lot of people will be traveling back home for the holidays.

And those driving Teslas may be in for a shock.

Tesla has introduced a ā€œSupercharger Congestion Feeā€ at certain locations.

If a Supercharger is busy, and your vehicle is 90 percent or more full, Tesla will add an extra $1.00 per minute that you stay plugged in.

There are certain conditions, though:

  • the fee will only be added when the location is busy

  • users will be warned about upcoming congestion fees on their phone app and will be given 5 minutes of grace to move their car

  • there is no upper limit to the congestion fee, which means it could add up to a big bill if you don’t move your vehicle quickly.

Sooooo, if you’ve got a Tesla and travelling - be mindful

3/ Wait 9 months to get your Tesla repaired

Insurance providers can be a pain to deal with.

Usually the pain is short-lived and before you know it, you’re back on the road with your repaired/new car.

Unless you own a Tesla.

Some owners claim they have to wait up to 9 months just for someone to assess the damage.

That is before the time spent on repairs, which can add up to weeks or months.

Really makes you wonder if an EV is the way to go…

4/ The Rock has never heard of the Cybertruck

Shocking! I know!

While on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Dwayne Johnson claims he had never even heard about the Cybertruck, let alone seen photos of it.

Elon was quick to repost the clip on X. It’s free marketing after all.

šŸ˜†Memes šŸ˜†

Get a V8 they said. It’ll be fun they said

I suppose that is… creative?

That’s it for this week! See you next week
