w/c 22nd April 2024

Good morning fellow car enthusiast!

In our last week’s poll, banning the import of Chinese EVs won with 36 out of 54 votes.

But this week we’ve learned that some Chinese manufacturers are seeing a higher than expected demand for their vehicles.

Read on and find out…

Ford Mustang Dark Horse catches fire

According to the owner, a stuck clutch is to blame.

  • The pedal got stuck to the floor after the owner shifted it into fifth gear

  • He managed to pull the pedal back up with his foot, but it went right back down

  • The car was stuck in gear and would not go into neutral

  • They pulled over to the side, and that’s when smoke started appearing from under the hood

  • The owner popped it open and noticed a fire coming from the gearbox, which soon engulfed the entire engine bay

NYC speed limits to be lowered

New York State has passed a new legislation to lower speed limits from 25 mph to 20 mph.

  • The law is named “Sammy’s Law” after 12-year-old Sammy Cohen Eckstein who lost his life after being hit by a speeding driver

  • His mother, Amy Cohen, led a campaign for the last 10 years, pushing for this law to come into effect

However, the law does not apply to roads with three or more lanes travelling in the same direction.

Dubai flood no match for a hypercar

In our last issue we showed the demise of supercars during the Dubai floods.

Today, you’re going to see a Pagani Utopia wade through like it’s nothing.

Yes, the water isn’t too deep; but one needs to either be dumb or daring to take a $2.5 million hypercar through a flooded road.

Not to mention, only 99 examples have been made.

This TT Corvette E-Ray makes 1,000 hp

Last week we covered the world’s first supercharged Corvette E-Ray.

Today, we’re taking a look at a twin turbo example built by Boost District.

Mods:

  • Turbochargers from ETS

  • Upgraded pistons from Lingenfelter

  • Upgraded fuel system

  • Heavy duty clutch

Quarter mile: 9.7 seconds (10.6 stock)

1. BMW M2 crashes into Ford Mustang

For once, it’s the Mustang that’s a victim here.

The crash is a result of what happens when you don’t stay in your lane.

2. Semi rips apart parked Cybertruck

First, the Cybertruck was pinned to the wall by the semi truck backing up into the parking spot.

Then, while trying to move out, it damaged the trim and glass, with the steel panels largely left intact.

3. 24 Y.O. employee crashed dealer Ferrari F40

PAINFUL to look at this picture…

A German luxury car dealer let one of their young employees drive the $3.2 million classic car to a car show.

He ended up losing control, crashing head first into a wall. Ouch!

Xiaomi SU7 demand much higher
than expected

On one hand, the US is trying to ban the import of Chinese EVs.
On the other side, these companies are seeing demand for their vehicles exceed expectations.

One of those manufacturers is Xiaomi, who are new to the car scene.

Yet, the CEO claimed that the demand for their SU7 EV is 3 to 5 times higher than expected.

Its low price is probably a major factor, as it undercuts the Tesla Model 3 by $4,000.

New Tesla Model 3 is faster

Tesla recently unveiled the Tesla Model 3 Performance which is faster than the model it replaces.

  • An improved peak power output

  • Energy consumption has been reduced by 2%

  • The dual motors produce 510 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque

  • 0-60 is completed in 2.9 seconds (with rollout subtracted)

  • The adaptive dampers now adjust in real-time and have 3 modes - Standard, Sport, and Track

  • Comes standard with “track-ready” brake pads and staggered 20-inch wheels with Tesla-specific Pirelli P Zero 4 performance tires

  • Changes to the interior and exterior of the car

Deliveries are slated to begin in May or June with prices starting at $52,990 before a $1,390 destination fee.

Tesla sacks entire marketing team

Tesla hired its marketing team only in January 2024.

Up to this point, its customers (and haters) did a great job of marketing the brand.

So why did the newly hired marketing team get fired?

Afterall, Elon did promise investors back in 2013 that Tesla would “try out a little advertising and see how it goes.”

This move is also in line with Tesla laying off over 10 percent of its staff worldwide in order to save costs.

Cybertruck accelerator pedal issue fixed…sorta

Tesla recalled every single Cybertruck they produced to fix an issue with the accelerator pedal - the faceplate could potentially slide off and jam the pedal.

The cause?

Soap was used to get the plate tread onto the pedal. This caused the faceplate to slide off the pedal, wedge itself in the footwell, and cause unintended acceleration.

The solution?

Well, Tesla has not revealed one yet, but a Reddit user has - a rivet.
