Electric Dodge charger, Rare American cars and more

this week's highlights in 4min

Hey friends,

My dad was asking me about crypto (my main job is in the blockchain sector) so I wondered..

I’m fairly young so extremely risk-on.

If you’re thinking about it, please please be EXTREMELY careful.

I’ve lost tens of thousands trying to speculate…

Anywayyy, let’s chat about cars

F1 driver’s stolen car recovered
28 years later

1995 San Marino Grand Prix.

During the race weekend, 2 Ferrari F1 drivers’ cars were stolen from their hotel.

One was a Ferrari F512M Testarossa belonging to driver Gerhard Berger.

He caught the thief in the act chased him down in a friend’s car, but was unsuccessful.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the car had been shipped to Japan and was never recovered - until now.

And it wasn’t the police who tracked it down…

  • The F512M was shipped to the UK in 2023 and caught the eye of an interested American buyer

  • He went to Ferrari to get the VIN inspected

  • Ferrari then realized that it was a stolen car and reported it to the UK police and seized

Apart from an ugly replacement steering wheel, the car remains in its original condition.

Only 501 F512Ms were produced, and the car is worth $440,300 today.

The clock in this Rolls Royce took
5 months to assemble

Rolls Royce is building 4 bespoke cars, called the Droptail.

the Droptail Arcadia

Here’s what makes them so interesting and expensive (over $30million)

  • 3 have already been built

  • The Arcadia’s paint uses white as the base and is infused with aluminum and glass particles

  • The car has 233 wood trims which took 8000 hours and F1-derived techniques to build

  • The clock face with its geometric guillochĂ© pattern has 119 facets, celebrating RR’s 119 years and took 5 months to assemble

Rolls Royce said that “the testing and validation standards at Rolls Royce are higher than those of the watch world”, which is why it takes so long to build.

Even on its own, the clock is a stunning piece of art.

Goodbye Bugatti W16
Hello V16 Hybrid

Even though it’s owned by Rimac, Bugatti has no plans of going full electric anytime soon.

Nor is it ditching its signature 16-cylinder engine.

Instead, the hypercar manufacturer is replacing the famed W16 with a V16 hybrid.

While no details have been released, we do have a video that gives us a sneak peek of how it sounds - glorious!

Does it sound better than the quad-turbo W16 though? You tell us!

Rare American gems preserved for future generations

The team at Barn Find Hunter visited the Detroit Historical Society where ultra-rare cars such as the Ford Cougar II (Cobra), Pontiac Fiero, and 1963 Ford Mustang II (1 of 1) are stored in capsules or car bubbles.

The location is not open to the public, and it’s rare to see these cars preserved the way they are.

What does the car capsule do?

  • It protects the car from external damage

  • Its internal air changes three to four times per hour, while the temperatures inside are kept consistent

  • This helps keep moisture out, thus preventing corrosion and mold

If you’re into vintage American cars, I strongly recommend watching the full video.

1. Beast of the Green Hell goes diving

The supercar driver was in the middle of an overtake when he lost control and ended up in a Dutch canal.

The occupants escaped unhurt, but it’s unlikely that the car is salvageable.

2. Cybertruck beached

First, it was a Cybertruck that couldn’t make it up a snowy trail.

This time one managed to get stuck in the sand.

The owner was issued a citation since driving onto California’s Marina State Beach is illegal.

3. Road rage ends in pit maneuver

While the driver of the dashcam car did a good job of not losing control, this whole situation could have been avoided if she just slowed down.

The lane cutter was at fault too, obviously.

Used Cybertruck prices are flipping crazy

Even after Tesla imposed a $50,000 penalty on anyone trying to flip a Cybertruck within the first 12 months of ownership, a few examples have made their way onto the used car scene.

These used trucks are being sold for a lot more than their MSRP of $100,000.

One example was bought at auction for $244,000 and is now being listed for sale again at $289,000!!

In case you’re interested in purchasing one at nearly triple the original price, here’s the link to the CarGurus listing.

This trend is unlikely to continue, though. We saw something similar with the GMC Hummer being sold for $200,000 early on, but have now dropped back to $100,000.

Dodge Charger EV intentionally sacrifices range for performance

Kusinskis (CEO of Dodge) is more than happy to give up range for a car that looks and performs better than other EVs.

But it raises an interesting debate.

On one hand, you have the Charger EV which isn’t exactly the definition of a muscle car.

While on the other hand, range is a huge factor for someone wanting to buy an EV.

So who is the target customer for the Charger EV?

To me, it’s someone who isn’t a hardcore muscle car fan, but at the same time wants an EV that is…different.

Only the sales figures will give us a proper understanding.

We’d like to know your thoughts…

Exchange your EV for a BMW and get a $1000 discount

First, it was Ford offering $1k off to anyone who exchanged their Jeep for a Bronco.

Now, BMW has followed in its footsteps and is offering owners of rival brands like Rivian, Polestar, Lucid, Tesla, Mercedes, and Audi a discount if they buy the i4, i5, or iX.

BMW is also allowing owners to stack incentives.

Those leasing an i4 can get a $7,500 credit plus the additional $1,000 discount.

This strategy may also be in response to the slow EV growth, and the company hopes the lower price will increase sales.

EVs cause road damage and owners will have to pay for it

The government of Alberta, Canada is going to levy a $200 annual tax on EVs to help raise funds for road improvements.

They say that the tax has been designed to compensate for the added wear and tear on provincial roads caused by EVs and their added weight.

$200 is also the average of what an ICE owner pays in fuel taxes every year.

The head of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association, however, feels that this move will make the transition to EVs even more difficult.
