Nissan Skyline ā€˜Safari GT-Rā€™

Two words: Safari builds.

Think Porsche 911 Dakar and the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato, both off-road versions of their sportscar counterparts.

Now imagine Nissan doing this in the 1990ā€™s with the infamous Skyline.

Okay, Nissan didnā€™t, but YouTuber Adam LZ did.

Hereā€™s a video of him ripping it around a dirt track šŸ‘‡

This is one automotive trend I hope catches on, and we see more manufacturers offer safari cars (a Mustang Raptor maybe?) šŸ¤”

Lowriders to make a
comeback in California

Lowrider lovers rejoice! šŸ™Œ

After a ban of more than 30 years, cruising the streets of California has become legal again.

As of January 1, the so-called ā€œCruising Is Not a Crimeā€ bill (Assembly Bill 436) went into effect.

You have California State Assembly Representative David Alvarez to thank for the bill.

"Classic cars and cruising are an expression of art and a cultural identity, and safe cruising events offer a fun and festive opportunity for communities."

Find the Best Driving Road
with this New Map

Donā€™t tell me youā€™re a car enthusiast if you donā€™t go for a fun drive during the weekends.

If you do, youā€™ll know the pains of finding a good driving road in your area.

Well, fret no more!

Curvature is like Waze - but for gearheads!

It gives you a color-coded map, as well as a ā€œcurvature valueā€ to show you how twisty (a.k.a fun) the road is.

For the U.S., the best driving roads are found in the Virginias, the Carolinas, and California.

But why donā€™t you try and find something in your locality?

Become a better driver
with Digital Assistants

Mercedes Benz & Lamborghini each revealed their AI-powered digital driving assistants at the CES 2024.

Letā€™s take a look at what they can do.

Mercedes Benz

  • It can learn the behavior of the driver and offer helpful suggestions like playing the news in the morning or automatically starting the driverā€™s preferred massage at the end of the day

  • It has 4 personality traits - Natural, Predictive, Personal, and Empathetic

  • ā€˜Hey Mercedesā€™ no longer needs to be said; instead, you can converse with it like you would a friend

Lamborghini

  • Itā€™s called the ā€˜Digital Co-Pilotā€™

  • Aims to provide drivers with an immersive track-driving experience

  • Driver biometrics & car telemetry are monitored, and the AI assistant then gives feedback

  • This data is also sent to a human coach who can provide additional feedback

See it in action šŸ‘‡

While this is certainly an innovative feature, it does raise data privacy concerns šŸ•µļø

1/ Ford Mustang on Shelby Street

Image via Indianapolis Fire Department/Facebook

Ironic, isnā€™t it? Although the Mustang in question is not a Shelby model.

He wasnā€™t hurt, but letā€™s hope everyone had insurance.

2/ Caught red-handed

A 19-year-old driver in Australia crashed his Subaru BRZ.

After checking his dashcam, police found that the teen was involved in street races, and violated 48 other laws.

On the bright side, he owned up to his mistakes.

3/ When in doubtā€¦hit the brakes! Youā€™re not Colin McRae

Hereā€™s what unfolded:

  • Audi Q5 cuts into the left lane

  • Dashcam driver should have hit the brakes but instead continued accelerating

  • Dashcam car flips over

Iā€™d link the original thread on Reddit but itā€™s now been deleted.

Weā€™re just that quick, you know šŸ˜Ž

1/ Get the perfect song to suit your driving mood

Weā€™ve all had that moment when the song youā€™re listening to doesnā€™t suit your driving style.

Well, thatā€™s set to be a problem of the past as will.i.am has teamed up with Mercedes to create music while driving.

Hereā€™s what you need to know:

  • The system is called Sound Drive

  • It takes readings from 10 sensors around the car - suspension traves, steering angle, throttle position, etc.

  • It then ā€˜re-composesā€™ the song thatā€™s currently playing into something that fits the moment

  • Example: If youā€™re at a red light, the music plays softly in the background. Accelerate hard when it turns green and itā€™ll add a bass drop

  • For now, only Sound Drive-compatible songs work with this feature, but itā€™ll be expanded with AI-generated music

ā€œThe idea came from experiencing the EQS which has a sound generator that mimics a V8. I was in one doing about 20mph through a turn and my sound sensors didnā€™t ā€˜believeā€™ the noise [the car was making]."

2/ Tesla Cybertruck problems begin

Here are 2 reports from the past week:

Report 1: Cybertruck touchscreen stops working

Report 2: Real-world Cybertruck range less than EPA estimates (254 miles instead of 318 miles)

So if youā€™re thinking of buying a Cybertruck, maybe wait a bit more?

3/ Your car takes longer to charge at free charging stations

A study was done on the public charging habits of US-based EV owners.

It showed:

  • Using a free charging station - 1h 18min

  • Using a paid charging station - 42min

If you decide to give this a test, please let us know your results!
